This course focuses on the roles of ethics and morality in the context of issues of crime, law, and justice. This course emphasizes the concepts, principles and theories that modern society defines as representing ethical thought and how these concepts can be applied to criminal justice. Topics include how ethics and morals affect our understanding of issues in criminal justice, how crime and justice are linked to ethics and morality. Theories of crime based on free will, determinism, relativism, self-interest, and psycho-social development are covered. Finally, lawmaking, criminal punishment, and unethical professional behavior are discussed.
